Businesses Donate For Fire Safety

From Staff Reports

Several Hayden businesses are helping their city’s fire department educate young children about the dangers of fire.

Twenty-eight businesses donated $2,500 to the National Fire Safety Council during fall and winter of 1994, said Gwenn Stone, fire prevention officer for the Hayden Fire Department.

From that money, the fire safety council has supplied the Hayden Fire Department with numerous fire education materials, including coloring books, stickers and puppets.

Stone uses those materials to teach children in the Hayden public, private and home schools what to do in case of a fire.

“They’re curious about fire,” Stone said. “If they are aware of what to do in an emergency situation, they’ll know to get out and stay out of a burning house and call for help.”
