Reason No. 11: It’s Just Another Stupid Pet Trick

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Loose talk

Joan Rivers, on how the book “Little Women” affected her as a child: “I spent every free moment I had when I was in the third grade trying to fix them up with the seven dwarfs.”

Imagine: Ten top reasons NOT to watch the upcoming Oscars program.

Nowhere on that list, though, will you find this one: David Letterman has consented to serve as host this year.

Yes, the late-night talk-show guy is going to Hollywood. With his appearance in the Chris Elliott movie “Cabin Boy” serving as credentials, Letterman will take the place immortalized by such past hosts as Bob Hope, Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal.

Last year Whoopi Goldberg, an Oscar-winner for “Ghost,” took her turn at the Academy Awards podium.

Letterman is planning a few changes for the program, broadcast live on March 27: “The whole show will be 40 minutes long, and we’ll be giving away cars!”

For the movie, we see a toupeed

Willard Scott Rush Limbaugh turns 44 today.

Besides, her acting credentials are spotty

John McEnroe, ex-hubby of actress Tatum O’Neal, gave some advice to tennis bud Andre Agassi: Don’t date actresses. “After his relationship, it’s easy to understand,” said Agassi. “But everybody is different, you can’t stereotype. Brooke (Shields) is one of the most beautiful people in the world.”

He looks so cute in his little black robe

The event: Mia Farrow has adopted another child. The happening: She’s renamed it Gabriel Wilk Farrow. The significance: The name of the judge who presided, favorably, over her court battles with Woody Allen is named Elliott Wilk.

Next she’ll be doing ‘Home Improvement’

Watch for a rare live Madonna television sighting on Jan. 30. The pop diva will perform “Take a Bow” with the group Babyface at the American Music Awards.

And then his hard hat wouldn’t fit

“Home Improvement” star Tim Allen, who had a big-screen hit with “The Santa Clause,” says he’s still “pretty much in denial” about his success. “If I thought about it too much, I’d become big-headed,” he said at a Television Critics Association gathering.

Somehow, his bust seems different

Former porn star Traci Lords, whose legitimate parts these days include “Melrose Place” and “Roseanne,” thinks she’s still getting a bum rap. As she told TV Guide: “It’s strange to me that people can forgive Tim Allen for selling drugs, but I’ve got this scarlet letter hanging over my career because my past deals with sex.”
