Tide Surprises Razorbacks, Ends Home Run

Eric Washington scored seven straight points to stop Arkansas’ only run and then made two big 3-pointers as Alabama defeated No. 9 Arkansas 88-70, ending the Razorbacks’ home winning streak at 26 games in Fayetteville, Ark.

Alabama (4-3 Southeastern Conference, 12-5) led by 16 points 3 minutes into the second half, but Arkansas (4-3, 15-4) narrowed it to 56-48 with eight straight points. Washington got loose on a fast-break basket, then made an easy rebound basket and a 3-pointer as the Crimson Tide raised its lead to 63-48.

Washington, who scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half, hit a 3-pointer for a 66-54 lead and another one to make it 74-61.

Marcus Camby scored 23 points as the Minutemen (6-0 Atlantic 10, 14-1) turned loose their full-court trapping defense to outscore the Dukes 40-14 in the final 11 minutes of the first half en route to a rout in Pittsburgh.

Duquesne (2-6 and 5-10) sustained its worst loss since a 92-27 defeat to Stanford on Jan. 1, 1938.

Freshman Allen Iverson scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half in Landover, Md., as the Hoyas (6-2 Big East, 13-3) handed the Red Storm (2-6, 8-7) their sixth consecutive loss.
