Bsu Puts Education First
The state Board of Education has approved a contract for Boise State football coach Pokey Allen that includes an incentive clause for improving his players’ graduation rate and keeps him from collecting other incentive payments if the graduation rate drops.
Besides the academic incentives, Allen’s new three-year contract boosts his base pay $7,038 to $77,424 a year and calls for him and all fulltime assistant coaches to receive up to a 10 percent raise if the Broncos achieve at least an 8-3 record.
But Allen will not be able to collect any of the performance incentives unless the football team’s graduation rate is at least as high as the most recent four-year average. For each 5 percentage points over the four-year average, each coach will receive an extra $1,000, up to a maximum of $5,000.
