Here are highlights of North Idaho lawmakers’ votes in the past week:

Opening up: A bill to make college student government meetings subject to the state open meeting law passed the House 58-11. Rep. Hilde Kellogg, R-Post Falls, voted against. Reps. Jeff Alltus, R-Coeur d’Alene; Charles Cuddy, D-Orofino; Tom Dorr, R-Post Falls; June Judd, D-St. Maries; Wayne Meyer, R-Rathdrum; Carol Pietsch, D-Sandpoint; Don Pischner, R-Coeur d’Alene; Jim Stoicheff, D-Sandpoint; and Marv Vandenberg, D-Coeur d’Alene, all voted in favor.

Defense attorneys weep: Legislation passed the Senate to correct a clause in state law that allowed some DUI defendants to go free if they’d been prosecuted for a traffic offense in the same incident. Joining in the unanimous vote were Sens. Clyde Boatright, R-Rathdrum; Gordon Crow, R-Coeur d’Alene; Marguerite McLaughlin, D-Orofino; Mary Lou Reed, D-Coeur d’Alene; and Tim Tucker, D-Porthill.

Go away, Uncle Sam: A resolution passed the House 62-1 demanding that the federal government stay out of state matters unless the U.S. Constitution spells out a federal role. North Idaho representatives voted unanimously in favor (Reps. Vandenberg and Kellogg were absent and excused).
