Germany’s Gunda Niemann beat five-time Olympic gold medalist Bonnie Blair at 1,000 meters in World Cup speedskating, then added a victory at 3,000 meters.

Niemann won the 1,000-meter race in 1 minute, 22.07 seconds. She was more than a second ahead of Austrian Emese Hunyady. Blair, of Champaign, Ill., finished fifth - clocking 1:23.83.

Niemann came back to take the 3,000-meter race in 4:23.14. She was nearly 2 seconds faster than Carla Zijlstra of the Netherlands.
