Will The Real Hero Please Stand Up?

Compiled From Wire Services

The day Nina Davis’ apartment went up in flames, a bystander caught three of her children as they were thrown from a third-floor window.

But just who that man was is in dispute, and the mayor’s office doesn’t know who should get a commendation for helping save the children.

Four men have stepped forward, claiming to be the one who caught the children Jan. 21 and carried them to safety. Davis, who jumped from the window, was hospitalized.

One of the men, Clarence Williams, a 50-year-old water department plumber, said he even has a blister, a burn mark and a suit that smells like smoke to prove his story.

The mother will receive an award when she is released from the hospital, where she is recovering from burns over 40 percent of her body and scorched lungs.
