Medlock Walks Past Kimmel
Brad Medlock tossed a nohitter at the American Legion Fourth of July tournament Saturday, but there was a catch - the Prairie pitcher walked 11 Kimmel batters in the process.
Medlock struck out four in the five-inning game, a 9-0 Prairie victory at Gonzaga University in which Ryan Novak had two hits and four RBIs. It was the second of two 9-0 victories for Prairie on Saturday, the other coming against M&L Construction.
Brett Deboor threw a threehitter for Prairie against M&L, striking out eight without allowing a walk. Deboor faced just 24 batters in the seven-inning game. Joel Gorham led the Prairie offense with three RBIs.
Also at GU, Chapter Eleven/ Longhorn BBQ beat Maxwell House 3-2; PAC edged Jobquest 8-7; and PAC breezed past Maxwell House 13-5 despite trailing 4-0 after one inning, getting a three-run double from Newt White during an 11-run sixth.
At Jackson Field, Jobquest defeated Scott’s 7-4 despite Tim Klein’s three-run homer, getting two hits and two RBI’s from James Eckland; Scott’s defeated Olympic 13-6, pounding out 17 hits, including Grant Reeves’ solo homer; Kimmel edged SAS 4-3 as Jon Rappe went 3 for 4 with a run scored; Matt Hampton pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run as Apple Valley (Wenatchee) beat SAS 8-5: and Colin Hill’s fifth-inning solo homer helped Apple Valley beat Far West Electric (Vancouver) 9-1.
Basketball
Lindsay Thornton scored 27 points, making 9 of 9 free throws, as Kansas defeated Spokane 96-87 in a U-18 girls game at the national AAU tourney in Dallas.
Kansas jumped to a 12-point lead in the game’s first 2 minutes before Spokane, which got 22 points from Franklin star Takiyah Jackson, rallied for an eight-point lead before halftime.
Kansas won thanks to 12- and 15-point runs in the second half, and also scored the game’s final eight points. Allie Nieman of Sandpoint added 18 points for Spokane, which plays Ohio at 5:30 p.m. today.
Angelique Rogers scored 29 points and Marilee Johnson and Jemeka Robinson added 20 apiece as California defeated Spokane 107-105 in overtime of a U-16 national AAU tournament girls basketball game in Dallas.
Stacy Clinesmith of Mead led Spokane with 23 points. St. JohnEndicott star Andee Schmick added 20 and Carmel Lampson of Kamiakin scored 19 with seven assists.
Jennifer Swinton of Ferris had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Spokane plays Texas today at 10:30 a.m.
