Man Shot In Bar Fight Suing His Assailant

A man who was shot during a bar fight in 1993 filed suit against the man who shot him, according to Kootenai County court records.

Merle B. Jones filed suit against David Severson for shooting him in the right leg.

According to court records, Jones had to pay $1,713 in medical bills after he was shot.

Severson shot Jones during a fight that broke out in the Lake City Saloon, according to a Coeur d’Alene Police report. A witness told police that he did not think Severson had meant to shoot anyone.

Severson was convicted of injuring a person by discharging a weapon and sentenced to 30 days in jail, according to court records.

The lawsuit accuses Severson of shooting Jones “maliciously, intentionally.” Jones is asking for more than $10,000 in damages.
