Homeowners Due Insurance Break

From Staff Reports

Insurance rates will drop for some Hauser area homeowners, because an insurance rating service gave the city’s small fire department high marks.

The Idaho Surveying and Rating Bureau Inc. has bumped the city from a class nine to a class six for homeowners within 600 feet of most hydrants.

“It cuts their (Hauser’s) premium considerably,” said Coeur d’Alene Insurance agent Wally Goodsen.

He said a 20 percent decrease would be about average.

Homes farther from hydrants or the fire station won’t see their rates drop much, if at all.

Part of the change is due to water system work by the Hauser Lake Water Association, said Hauser Lake Fire Protection District Chief Myron Richardson.

In 1985, Hauser had only a couple fire hydrants. Now it has about 40, he said.

Also, the city bought a 1975 pumper truck to replace its 1953 pumper.
