North Splits Two Games In Idaho Bci Basketball

The North split a pair of girls basketball games on Thursday at the Idaho BCI Tournament at Borah High School in Boise.

Post Falls’ Heidi Umthun scored 13 points and Lake City’s Lindsey Herbert added 11 in the North’s 73-59 win over the South. Umthun hit 11 of 12 free throws and the North overcame a 10-point deficit.

The North lost the services of Lewiston’s Andrea Gomez, who suffered a broken ankle.

Wednesday afternoon, the North couldn’t maintain a 10-point lead and fell 68-67 to the East. Herbert had 16 points and Umthun and Lake City’s Katie Hatrock each had 12.

“We probably hit 9 or 10 threepointers in the first half, but they played tougher defense in the second half,” said North coach Dave Stockwell, Lake City’s new head coach.

Hatrock’s two free throws pulled the North within one point late in the game and Umthun stole the ensuing inbounds pass but she was ruled out of bounds. The North got the ball back again, but couldn’t get a shot off before the buzzer.

The North plays three games today and another Saturday morning before the championship round on Saturday afternoon.
