Rasmussen Considers Nic After Resignation
Bryan Rasmussen has resigned as head track and field coach at Coeur d’Alene High after only one season.
Rasmussen cited his desire to coach in college. He appears set to join the North Idaho College program as an assistant under Mike Bundy.
“I would like to have Bryan down here and everything looks like a go,” NIC athletic director Jim Headley said. “But Bryan, Mike and myself still have to sit down together.”
“This (college coaching) is kind of where I want to go, and I figure I better take advantage of the (assistant’s) opportunity while I have a chance,” Rasmussen said. “It’s just a matter of where my interests lie.”
Rasmussen would replace John Jensen, who recently stepped down from the NIC position.
Rasmussen, 26, will continue teaching at CdA High and as an assistant with Viking football. He plans to begin coaching at NIC at the conclusion of the football season this fall, roughly in November.
Rasmussen’s father Gary was the Viking track and field coach from 1980-90. The younger Rasmussen was an assistant for one season before becoming head coach. He said he’ll probably volunteer time to continue working with CdA track athletes.
CdA athletic director Larry Schwenke said the search for a replacement will begin soon.
“We feel like we’ve got some excellent candidates inside and within the district,” Schwenke said. “Bryan did an excellent job and we’re sad to see him make the move, but at the same time it looks like he has some excellent opportunities ahead of him.”
