Jarrett Coasts To Victory

Compiled From Wire Services

Dale Jarrett used every drop of fuel to get within a half mile of victory, then coasted around the final turn and hung on to beat Jeff Gordon in the Miller Genuine Draft 500.

Jarrett beat series leader Gordon by about five car lengths (.19 seconds) to win for the first time in 17 rides for Yates. The victory was only the third this year for a Ford Thunderbird, and the fourth for the 38-year-old driver.

Jarrett started 15th, and although he ran well throughout, he led only laps 56 and 57 before asserting himself in the final quarter of the event. All told, he led four times for 27 laps.
