Boil-Water Order Extended

From Staff And Wire Reports

Residents of St. Anthony have been advised to continue boiling their domestic water.

Latest samples from the city water system showed coliform or intestinal bacteria. Bacteria first turned up in the system on July 5.

City Clerk Rita Corta said it will take three clear samples before the boiling order can be lifted.

Tests taken Monday and Tuesday showed bacteria, a sign the water could be contaminated with organisms that can cause diseases with symptoms like diarrhea, cramps and nausea.

The earliest the state-issued boil advisory can be lifted is Sunday.

City crews have turned off one of three drinking wells, which could be the source of contamination, Corta said.
