‘Bomb’ Grounds U.K. Musicians

From Staff And Wire Reports

A joke about having a bomb grounded three British rock musicians when they boarded an Air B.C. flight headed for Edmonton.

The three were arrested after an attendant on the Thursday morning flight asked about an electrical device and power cord wrapped around a piece of wood being carried by one of the trio.

“It’s a bomb,” the man said, according to Staff Sgt. Bill Vande Braak of Richmond Royal Canadian Mounted Police. “She told him not to fool around and asked again.”

When she got the same response from all three, they were arrested.

The device, which had been cleared by airport security, was a voltage converter and power bar used for the band’s sound equipment.

The three were questioned, then released, said Sgt. Pete Evans. “We can’t release the names of people who are not charged with offenses,” he said, adding he didn’t catch the name of the band.

“They didn’t appear to be a high-end group,” he observed.

Once off the plane, “they were very cooperative,” Evans said.
