Utah Man Killed In Shooting Accident Near Idaho Campsite

A Utah man was accidentally shot to death Saturday near a campground southeast of Avery, Idaho, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies said 24-year-old Jared W. Colotzi, of Roosevelt, Utah, was shot by a camping partner and died at the scene.

The shooting occurred about a mile from the Heller Creek Campground.

Colotzi was target-shooting with friends about dusk when the accident occurred, said Shoshone County Coroner Lonny Duce. He said Colotzi apparently was hit with a shotgun blast in the shoulder and neck area.

He said the body was taken to a Spokane forensic pathologist. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Avery medical technician Al Hackett said two of Colotzi’s friends apparently ran to the campground for help. A Spokane emergency medical technician happened to be camping there and went to help Colotzi.
