Versalles Dies

Compiled From Wire Services

Zoilo Versalles, a member of the Minnesota Twins’ World Series team in 1965 and the American League’s most valuable player that year, was found dead in his Bloomington, Minn., home, authorities said.

Versalles, 55, was found at 4:16 p.m. after Bloomington police received a tip, according to a police spokesman.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office did not list a cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, the office said.

In 1965, Versalles hit .273 with 45 doubles, 12 triples and 19 home runs as Minnesota easily won the American League pennant before losing the World Series in the seventh game to the Dodgers’ Sandy Koufax.
