Love Holds Onto Lead

Compiled From Wire Services

A par round of 71 was good enough to keep Davis Love III atop the Kemper Open leaderboard in Potomac, Md. He’ll have to do better today to stay there.

Love had three birdies and three bogeys to finish the third round at 11-under 202, one shot ahead of Payne Stewart and two in front of Corey Pavin.

Pavin had nine birdies and a bogey for a 63, matching the TPC at Avenel course record achieved three times previously, most recently by Love on Friday.

Julie Larsen, who shared the firstround lead, was all alone at the top after 36 holes of the First Bank-Edina Realty LPGA Classic in Brooklyn Park, Minn.

Larsen had a 4-under 68. Her tournament-record 134 total was three strokes ahead of Cindy Rarick, who was also tied for the opening-round lead, and LPGA Hall of Famer Pat Bradley.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, is 14 strokes back with a total of 148.

Bernhard Langer had more trouble with a cold than the course, as he stretched his lead to five strokes after three rounds of the $1 million European Tournament Players Championship in Hamburg, Germany.

Langer, who has led since the opening round, fired a 4-under for a 201 total.

England’s Jamie Spence shot a 69 and remained in second place for the third day.

Jim Dent shot a 3-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead over Bob Murphy after two rounds of the $1.1 million BellSouth Senior Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

Dent, who started the round at 2-under, has a 135 total as he seeks his first victory in a year.

Five players stood three strokes back at 6-under 138, ready if Dent stumbles today at the 6,783-yard Springhouse Golf Club.
