When He Goes Cruising, He Follows A Straight Line

Nicole Kidman can’t understand why the rumor is still circulating that her hunky hubby, Tom Cruise, is gay and their marriage is an elaborate cover-up.

Maybe it’s because Cruise is “mighty fine-looking, and he’s worth having a fantasy about,” Kidman, who stars in the upcoming “Batman Forever,” told Vanity Fair magazine.

“Both of us are private people,” she said. “We don’t feel comfortable discussing what we do in bed at midnight - even though it IS pretty damn good.

“Look, Tom and I are heterosexual, we’re together, we’re in love. It’s weird even to have to answer that question … I’ll bet all my money I’ve ever made, plus his, that he doesn’t have a mistress, that he doesn’t have a gay lover, that he doesn’t have a gay life.”

North Dakota Gov. Ed Schafer has officially renamed U.S. Highway 83 in Emmons County the “Lawrence Welk Highway” after the hometown hero. The champagne music master’s daughter, Donna Welk Mack, said he always persevered even though his band once walked out on him “because they felt he was too much of a hick to ever make it in the music business.’

There’s nothing stereotypically sexist about the new “Miss America Cookbook,” insists Leonard Horn, the pageant’s chief executive officer. Said Horn: “If anything, it’s consistent with today’s definition of a female role model in today’s world. That’s the major point.”

Like Shaft, she’s actually a pretty bad mother

Barbara Ricci, named Mrs. Congeniality at the recent Mrs. New York state pageant, is going on trial for a second time on charges of trying to run down a neighbor’s 11-year-old daughter. She was previously arrested for punching and kicking an off-duty policeman at a school board meeting and landing him in the hospital.
