Iu Suffers Bad Knight

Compiled From Wire Services

The NCAA has reprimanded Bob Knight and fined Indiana University $30,000 for the basketball coach’s postgame outburst during the NCAA Tournament in March.

Knight, miffed that an NCAA media liaison erroneously said he would not attend the news conference, lashed out at him after the Hoosiers’ 65-60 first-round loss to Missouri.

Indiana athletic director Clarence Doninger said the sanctions were inappropriate but IU would not appeal.

Knight could not be reached for comment. University spokesman Gregg Elkin said there would be no other comment from the university.

After the game in Boise, Indiana players Alan Henderson and Brian Evans appeared for the news conference, without Knight. After the players left, someone informed Rance Pugmire, the NCAA representative at the public address microphone, that Knight would not be coming to the news conference.
