Charameda Wins Second Stage

Current U.S. National Criterium champion Laura Charameda rode to her second stage victory of the 1995 PowerBar International Women’s Challenge covering the 27.4-mile GT Bicycles Elkhorn Circuit Race course in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 52 seconds.

Team Saturn continued with its strong racing, taking the second and third spots in the Elkhorn Circuit Race. Jeanne Golay placed second, with Dede Demet edging out Team USA rider Karen Kurreck for third place.

Earlier in the day, Team Saturn made a clean sweep of the top three places in the morning’s Sun Valley Head to Head Time Trial.

Demet and Golay finished in 7:20, but Golay was edged out of the top spot by tenths of a second. Team Saturn’s Clara Hughes was third in 7:21 over the 3.2-mile course.

Edita Pucinskaite of Lithuania continues to wear the race’s yellow leader’s jersey, although Golay picked up 6 seconds on her for the overall race lead.
