UI Grant Will Computerize Science Classes
Science teachers and students will benefit from a three-year federal grant to the University of Idaho to add innovation and computers to classrooms.
The project begins this June with a two-week course at the UI Moscow campus and in Coeur d’Alene at North Idaho College. The two-part course will cover science instructional topics and techniques, and the use of computer networks.
Teachers will be provided with the computer hardware and software for their own classrooms to communicate with each other and university instructors, who will provide an on-line database of classroom science activities.
University professors Steven Gammon, Diane Baumgart and Robert Kearney are seeking teachers to be the first 40 participants in the project.
The grant is funded with $150,000 the first year, which includes $400 stipends for each teacher participating in the summer workshop.
