Jerry Hester Recipient Of 1994 Service Award
Jerry Hester, the Washington State School Directors Association’s consultant for national superintendent searches, received the 1994 American Association of School Administrators’ Distinguished Service Award at the national conference in New Orleans.
Hester, retired superintendent of the Spokane School District, was honored for his “distinguished service and exemplary achievement in education and administrative fields.” He now works with WSSDA’s exclusive contract with PRN Associates of Illinois, the nation’s largest education executive search firm.
The following students at Central Washington University in Ellensburg have had the abstract of their research paper published in the 1994 McNair Scholars Program Journal. They are:
Connell: Craig Parker, a senior majoring in biology.
Colville: Kevin Kinnan, a senior majoring in geography.
Spokane: Niki Marie Redl, a junior; and Joanna Willis, a junior majoring in psychology.
Wenatchee: Ramona Norton, a senior majoring in biology; Matt Pearcey, a recent graduate who majored in sociology; and Rhonda Corrick, a senior majoring in political science.
Kraig McCoy, a 1991 graduate of Shadle Park High School, was presented the J. Edward Zolinger award as Outstanding Senior of the Northwest District for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He will award a $400 scholarship to a sophomore for his junior and senior year, in his name, who shows the same leadership qualities and abilities he was cited for in receiving the award. McCoy is a senior majoring in accounting at the University of Washington and maintains a 3.65 GPA. He was brother of the Year in 1993, Recruitment Chairman last year and served as President this year.
The Inland Northwest Masonry Joint Apprenticeship Committee held the annual area apprentice contest. The Community Colleges of Spokane Apprenticeship and Journeyman Training Center was the city for the event.
Bricklayers from Washington and Idaho each constructed a predesigned brick BBQ in an allotted period of time. The BBQs were judged on quality of workmanship and had to be precisely square and plumb.
First place winner was Chris Sapp, Yakima; and second place winner was Larry Smith, Moses Lake. Both will advance to the Regional Western States Apprentice Contest in San Diego.
