Top-Ranked Fullerton Downs Zags, 7-2

Top-ranked Fullerton State defeated Gonzaga University 7-2 on Marc Kotsay’s three-run double and two-run home run Sunday in Fullerton, Calif.

The Titans improve to 20-3 on the season. The Bulldogs are 6-5.

Casey Olson had three hits for the Bulldogs (6-5), who head north for the Fresno State Best in the West Tournament.

They’ll play 20th-ranked Nevada today at 1 p.m.

Air rifle: Spokane resident Hatti Ponti won a gold medal with a 364 total in the 14-and-under girls division of the 1995 National Junior Olympic Championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Wrestling: A school-record five Central Washington University wrestlers earned All-American honors and the Wildcats placed ninth at Saturday’s NAIA national meet.

North Central grad Brett Lucas (38-15) finished third at 150 pounds, winning four matches to increase his season total to 38 - tying the school single-season record.

Teammates Leighton Smiley, Kevin Pine and Erik McDowell placed fifth at 126, 158 and 177 pounds.
