Mentally Ill Woman Reports Being Raped By Ex-Boyfriend

From Staff Reports

A 30-year-old mentally handicapped woman told police Thursday she was raped at knifepoint by a former boyfriend.

The incident allegedly occurred 12 days ago.

No arrests are imminent, said Coeur d’Alene Police Capt. Carl Bergh. Police have a suspect and plan to interview him and pass the information on to the Teton County prosecutor’s office.

The Rathdrum woman told police she had left the man a week earlier because he was violent. He since had been calling and alternately saying he loved her and threatening to kill her, according to police.

He allegedly picked her up about 10:30 p.m., March 6, drove to Independence Point and sexually assaulted her in the car while holding a fishing knife to her throat, according to police reports. She told police he picked her up again the next night and forced her into further sexual contact.

Police say the man is not from Coeur d’Alene.
