Rathdrum Man Charged With Rapes

A 35-year-old Rathdrum man was charged with two counts of rape Monday after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her twice on Saturday.

Gary Hanson is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $10,000 bail.

A 37-year-old Rathdrum woman told police that she met Hanson at a bar early Saturday morning. The two then went back to his camper trailer on Stevens Street, said Rathdrum Police Chief Bob Moore.

The woman told police that Hanson forced her to have sex with him. She managed to escape but Hanson then chased her down and dragged her back into his trailer, Moore said.

The woman told officers she escaped a second time and ran to a nearby house to call police.

Officers arrested Hanson at about 3 a.m. He denied that he attacked the woman, Moore said.
