Construction To Close St. Joe Campground

From Staff And Wire Reports

The popular Shadowy St. Joe Campground, boat ramp and picnic area will be closed for up to 60 days this summer for construction, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.

The campground is east of St. Maries along the St. Joe River. Possible closure dates are between July 10 and Sept. 10. The campground will open in May and remain open until construction begins.

The St. Joe Ranger District will be adding two universally accessible toilets, improving picnic sites, enlarging parking spurs to accommodate longer recreational vehicles, and resurfacing the roads, spurs and parking lots.

District Ranger Brad Gilbert urged people to choose a different location this summer if they normally use the campground for events such as Walk-a-thons and family reunions.
