Odyssey Of The Mind Winners Announced

The Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition took place March 11 at Spokane Community College. The result are as follows:

Scientific Safari (Division I): first - Northport School; second - Evergreen Elementary, Mead; third - Selkirk Elementary, Metaline Falls, Wash.

(Division II): first - Wilson Elementary; second - Riverside Middle School; third - Arcadia Elementary, Deer Park.

(Division III): first - Gonzaga Preparatory School; second - West Valley High School; third - Central Valley High School. All first-place teams will advance to state.

The Mail Must Go Through (Division I): first - Evergreen Elementary; second - Reardan High School. Both teams will advance to state.

Vaudeville (Division I): first - Kettle Falls Elementary; second Cusick Elementary; third - Midway Elementary, Mead.

(Division II): first - Greenacres Junior High; second - Horizon Junior High; third - Roosevelt Elementary.

(Division III): first - Lind High School; second - Northport School; third - West Valley High School. All first-place teams, including secondplace teams of Divisions I and II, will advance to state.

New Twist (Division I): first - East Valley Planned Enrichment Program; second - Balboa Elementary; third - Regal Elementary.

(Division II): first - Northwood Junior High; second - Mead Junior High; third - Riverside Middle School.

(Division III): first - Northport School; second - Gonzaga Preparatory School. All first-place teams will advance to state.

Time Traveler (Division I): first - Roosevelt Elementary; second - Great Northern School; third - Central Valley Able Learners.

(Division II): first - Northport School; second - Greenacres Junior High; third - Northwood Junior High. Both firstplace teams, including second-place team of Division II, will advance to state.

State competition will be held April 22 in Yakima. The secondplace teams accompany the firstplace teams to state if there are more than 10 teams in a division.

Kristi Torgerson, daughter of Debra Wade, Spokane, recently attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference is a unique leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit. She is a junior at Shadle Park High School.

Judith Gilmore has been selected by the Soroptimist International of Spokane for the 1995 Women Helping Women Award. The award is given to a person who reinforces the group’s objective, the advancement of the status of women. Gilmore is involved with NARAL, neighborhood groups, and is an Eastern Washington representative at the governor’s office in Spokane.
