Terps Hoops Investigated

Compiled From Wire Services

An investigation into alleged gambling by Maryland athletes reportedly has expanded beyond the school’s football team to possible gambling by basketball players and former football players.

Current and former football players for the Terrapins have been asked about possible gambling by members of the men’s basketball team, the Baltimore Sun reported.

And Maryland has offered to fly in former Terrapin linebacker Mike Rodgers for an interview, the Washington Post reported.

Rodgers, who transferred to Memphis University after playing for Maryland for the 1991 and 1992 seasons, is at least the third former Maryland football player to be contacted by the school about the investigation, the newspaper said.

Betting on college sports is a violation of NCAA rules, and athletes risk their eligibility by doing so.
