WSU Students Honored As Outstanding Juniors

Two Washington State University students were recently honored as Capital Press Outstanding Juniors. They each were awarded a $500 cash award at the 36th Annual Awards Banquet of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. The award, provided by the Capital Press newspaper of Salem, Ore., recognizes leadership and outstanding scholastic and professional achievement.

Michael Stolp, of Sprague, Wash., was honored in the study of agriculture. During his first year, he was named Freshman of the Year and has since maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA. The agribusiness major has been inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society, the Alpha Zeta agriculture honorary and the Golden Key Honor Society. He has been on the agriculture economics knowledge bowl team and is active in the student Agriculture Economics/ Agribusiness Club. He is also president of Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

Jeanna Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hall, Colbert, was honored in the family and consumer sciences category. She is a student in the Coordinated Undergraduate Option in General Dietetics, and would like to use her “knowledge in nutrition and dietetics as a platform from which she can reach homeless individuals and improve their nutritional status.” She is an honors student, maintains a 3.8 GPA, and has been on the honor roll every semester. She is a member of the womens track team and was selected to the Pacific-10 Conference’s All-Academic Second Team in track and field in 1994.

Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children was recently named the recipient of a prestigious national award - the American Hospital Association’s 1995 Nova Award. The organization was one of only five in the country to receive this honor. They were recognized for its CHOICES program (Children’s Health Care Options Improved through Collaborative Efforts and Services), which is designed to better meet the needs of children with special healthcare needs.

Natalie Metzger, daughter of Wanda and Bernard Metzger, has been selected by the Inland Empire Girl Scout Council to attend “Aquatic Wonders of the Deep South” in Mobile, Ala., June 15-29. She is in Senior Girl Scout Troop 295. She will experience life on the Gulf Coast while studying marine flora and fauna.
