Ex-Governor Undergoes Heart Surgery
Three-term Idaho governor Robert E. Smylie was listed in fair condition at a Boise hospital Thursday.
St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center spokesman Patrick Thomas confirmed that Smylie, 80, had open heart surgery earlier in the week.
Smylie, a retired Boise lawyer, was elected governor in 1954 and was re-elected twice before losing the 1966 GOP primary to Don Samuelson.
