Logged Areas Will Be Burned

The Fernan Ranger District will light fires in nearby woods over the next two days, weather permitting.

Previously logged areas will be burned to reduce the danger of wildfire, a district spokeswoman said.

This afternoon, the U.S. Forest Service plans to use helicopters to set 45 acres on fire about 25 miles east of Coeur d’Alene. On Wednesday, four acres in the same area are to be ignited from the ground.

The most highly visible burning also is planned for Wednesday on 15 acres only four miles northeast of town.
