Wayne Tillett Spokane

Memorial service for Wayne Tillett, 63, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1435. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Holdenville, Okla., Mr. Tillett died Wednesday.

He had lived in Spokane for 54 years and was a musician. Along with his brother Troy, he played in a group called The Mavericks.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Hodgkinson; three sons, Robert and Rich Tillett, both of Spokane, and Terry Tillett of Livingston, Mont.; two brothers, Robert Tillett of Salt Lake City, and Troy Tillett of Spokane; two sisters, Deana Duguay of Spokane and June Harder of Libby, Mont., and several grandchildren.

Verna Walker Spokane

No service will be held for Verna M. (Walser) Walker, 98. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Thursday.

She was born in Fairfield.

She graduated from Cheney Normal School and taught in Worley, Rose Lake, and Potlatch, Idaho.

She and her first husband, Daniel Terry, lived in Minneapolis. She later returned to Potlatch and married Carson “Casey” Walker. He served as sheriff of Whitman County from 1934 to 1942, when they moved to the Spokane Valley in 1942. He died in 1951.

Mrs. Walker moved to Moscow, Idaho, then returned to the Spokane Valley in 1986 to live with her daughter.

She is survived by one daughter, Pat Pasquale of Spokane; one granddaughter and one greatgranddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association for research.

John Otis Spokane

Memorial Mass for John E. Otis, 90, will be at 11 a.m Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Otis, who was born in Mankato, Minn., died Thursday.

He was a roofer and a member of the Roofers Union Local.

He had lived in Spokane since early childhood and served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Rebekah Otis; two stepsons, Charles Baldwin of Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert Sauter of Spokane; one stepdaughter, Mable West of Spokane; two sisters, Alice Reyling and Celia Potts both of Spokane; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Howard Gatlin Spokane

Memorial service for Howard H. Gatlin, 85, was held Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment was at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Gatlin, a 75-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Marlow, Okla.

During World War II he operated the Farragut (Idaho) Catering Co. He was a former owner of Kaniksu Resort at Priest Lake, Idaho, and was one of the founders of the Bank of Spokane. He was coowner of SMD Electronics and was a member of the Spokane Country Club. He was the former owner of Discount Lumber.

His wife, Dorothy Gatlin, died in 1988.

He is survived by one son, Bud Gatlin of Colbert; one daughter, Patty Gehrke of Colbert; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Michael Ladish Spokane

Memorial service for Michael Francis Ladish, 39, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert. Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ladish, a lifetime Spokane resident, died April 15.

He graduated from Mead High School in 1974 and worked as a printer at I.A.P.

He is survived by his parents, Mike and Patricia Ladish of Spokane; two daughters, Kerry and Theresa Ladish, both of Spokane; four sisters, Christine Carbery, Colleen Morse and Nancy Smith, all of Spokane, and Patty Dinger, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Dr. James Condon Jr., D.D.S. Spokane

Funeral Mass for Dr. James R. Condon, Jr., is set for 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Private inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Dr. Condon, 68, died Thursday in Colbert.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Gonzaga Prep. He attended Gonzaga University and graduated from Creighton University Dental School.

He practiced dentistry in Spokane from 1953 until 1993 and donated his services to many organizations.

He was a member of the American Dental Association, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Knights of Columbus, Delta Sigma Delta, Spokane Dental Society, Washington Association of Dentistry for Children and served as a sergeant major in the military police in the Korean War.

He is survived by four sons, Daniel Condon of Spokane, James Condon of Seattle, Thomas Condon of Baltimore and Casey Condon of Portland; two daughters, Margaret Condon of San Francisco, Meagen Condon of Bellingham, Wash.; three brothers, Patrick, John and William Condon, all of Spokane; four sisters, Mary Conley and Kathleen Green, both or Spokane, Bridget Brockmeyer of Lodi, Calif., and Michell Wingard of Salem, Ore., and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Murray ‘Nick’ Butler Deer Park

Service for Murray Nicholas “Nick” Butler, 65, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Butler, a 40-year Deer Park resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in Butlerville, Utah.

He was a general building contractor.

He and his wife, Dora, were foster parents to more than 200 children.

He was a member of the Clayton Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dora; three sons, Richard Butler of Marysville, Wash., Roy Butler of Loon Lake, Wash., and Charles Piene of Hoodsport, Wash.; one brother, Pete Butler of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Lasca Powell of Tacoma and Lee Chavez of Renton, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

James Gilliland Smelterville, Idaho

Service for James L. Gilliland, 82, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gilliland moved to Smelterville in 1948 from Kansas.

He worked as a miner for Page and Galena mines and retired in 1975.

He was a musician and played for different clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and oil painting.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Julia Gilliland; two daughters, Judy Byrum of Billings, Mont., and Connie Smart of Independence, Kan.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
