Ballet Workshops Teach Basics And Beyond

The Ballet Arts Academy of Spokane, 408 1/2 W. Sprague, holds its annual Children’s Summer Workshop starting Monday, June 19.

The workshop consists of three weeks of classes for beginning and intermediate dancers. Courses range from Ballet I to Ballet IIIA.

Students can take one to three weeks of a selected class.

Meet the Artist

The second part in a series called “Meet the Artist Days,” featuring enamel artist Harold Balazs, happens today at the Cheney Cowles Museum, 2316 W. First, from 1 to 4 p.m.

During the three-hour event, which is sponsored by the museum, Balazs will give demonstrations of enamel art creation.

The Cheney Cowles Museum is open each week Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Call 456-3932 for more information.

Kudos to local artist

Edie Dunlap, a Spokane-based watercolor artist, has her painting “Garden Lace” on display at the Northwest Water Color Society’s 55th Annual Open Exhibition at the Howard/Mandville Gallery in Kirkland.

Out of the 704 entries submitted for the exhibit, only 99 were chosen.

Dunlap’s painting also received an award.

The exhibition continues through June 17.

Auditions

The Cutter Theatre in Metaline Falls is holding auditions for its summer musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” an adult version of the medieval “The Princess and the Pea,” on Wednesday, June 7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

There are several openings for men and women who can sing and dance. Teenagers who can pass for adults are also invited to audition.

Those who can’t attend the scheduled sessions can still audition. To schedule a special audition, call 446-4108.

Rehearsals will take place through June and July. The musical opens July 28.
