Vicki Studer Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Vicki Lynn Studer, 44, will be today at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry. Private inurnment will follow at Porthill Cemetery in Porthill, Idaho. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Studer, who was born in Sandpoint, died Wednesday.

She attended schools in Bonners Ferry and graduated from high school in Spokane. She went on to attend Eastern Washington University and Spokane Falls Community College.

She married Dennis Stewart in 1973 and they worked as caretakers at Camp Four Echoes. They later divorced.

She married Brad Studer in 1980.

Mrs. Studer had worked for the Idaho First National Bank in Coeur d’Alene and was a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic and educational organization.

She was a member of the Art Club and the Girl Scouts.

Survivors include her husband, at home; two sons, Matt and Brian Stewart, both of Bonners Ferry; two daughters, Alisia Studer of Bend, Ore., and Katy Studer of Bonners Ferry; her parents, Don and Marge Stueve of Spokane; one sister, Sheri Hodneland of Deer Park; three brothers, Don Stueve of Diamond Lake, Wash., Mark Stueve of Coos Bay, Ore., and Mike Stueve of Portland; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles Hetzler Hayden

Service for Charles “Chuck” Hetzler, 63, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hayden 1st Ward. Burial will follow at the Mormon Section of Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hetzler, who was born in Ohio, died Tuesday of cancer.

He entered the Navy in 1951 and was stationed in Key West, Fla. He married Evie Kaelin in 1954.

After his military discharge in 1955, he moved to Piqua, Ohio.

He entered the Air Force in 1956 and retired as a master sergeant at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1976 and worked as a custodian at Lakes Middle School for 19 years. He retired in 1994.

Mr. Hetzler enjoyed hunting and repairing small engines. He was a member of the Panhandle Riders motorcycle group.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Al of Hayden Lake and Tuck of Moscow; one daughter, Mary Baker of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Virginia Spears and Mary Wilson, both of Piqua; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Blanche Virginia (Jones) Blair Spokane

Service for Blanche Virginia (Jones) Blair, 75, is set for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Blair, who died Monday, was born in Van Burien, Ark., and had lived in Spokane for more than 25 years.

She had been an independent homecare giver until a few years ago.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Dudley of Yuma, Ariz., and Virginia Silk of Colville, Wash.; one stepson, Keith Jones of Spokane; one stepdaughter, Barbara Unacks of Missoula; three sisters, Ruth Peterson of Missoula, Mary Catherine Pierson of Priest River, Idaho, and Jessie “Crickett” Larriemore of Spokane; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth Powell Spokane

Service for Ruth L. Powell, 80, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Mission Avenue United Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, Mrs. Powell died Monday.

She had lived in Spokane since 1956, when she married Charles Powell in Coeur d’Alene.

He died in 1986.

She was a member of Mission Avenue United Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two sons, John Sundblad of Libby, Mont., and Phillip Sundblad of Blanchard, Idaho; two daughters, Dianne Falsetto of Spokane and Janet Rishling of Hauser Lake, Idaho; one brother, Homer Conklin of Mission Viejo, Calif.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Emerson Duffield Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Emerson Anderson Duffield, 84, was held Friday. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Duffield, who was born in Billings, Mont., died Tuesday.

He came to the area in 1947 and married Florence Sheridan in 1960. He moved to California in 1963 and returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1974.

He served as an Army Air Corps flight officer in World War II and flew transport aircraft in the EuropeanAfrican-Middle Eastern Theater. He later became a flying instructor at Weeks Field near Coeur d’Alene. He was a lumber grader in Idaho and California and worked as a custodian before retiring in 1976.

Mr. Duffield was a member of the American Legion post and served as the past commander.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Robert of Arkansas and James of Los Angeles; one stepson, David Sheridan of Coeur d’Alene; and three stepdaughters, Kathleen Sims of Coeur d’Alene, Carol Jenson of Washington and Kay Maxwell of Seattle.

Carl Joseph Montana

Private family services for Carl Dugal Joseph, 82, were held at an earlier date. Coffelt Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph, who was born in Sitka, Alaska, died Sunday in Spokane.

He had worked in the timber industry most of his life and also worked in the smelter at Kellogg. He lived in Happy’s Inn, Mont., for the past 35 years.

Survivors include a son, John of Westmond, Idaho ; one daughter, Carla Cragren of Newport, Ore.; one sister, Margaret Robinson of Coeur d’Alene; and one granddaughter.

Laura Mast Spokane

Service for Laura L Mast, 68, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service.

Mrs. Mast, who was born in West Virginia, died Monday.

She had lived in Spokane for 30 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Mast is survived by one daughter, Susan Burgess of Spokane; three sons, Ronald and Randy Miller, both of Spokane, and Rick Miller of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Bell Grempler of Baltimore, Md., and Sandra Bischoff of Maui, Hawaii; three brothers, Donald and Leonard Hamilton, both of Spokane, and Glen Hamilton of Alaska; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

William McCloskey Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for William McCloskey, 69, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McCloskey, a 19-year Coeur d’Alene resident, died Monday in Spokane.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and graduated from high school there before attending college in Pennsylvania for two years. He served with the Navy during World War II.

Mr. McCloskey enjoyed basketball and had been an avid basketball player in his youth. He loved fishing and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Good Sam Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ginger in 1993.

Survivors include a son, William McCloskey Jr. of Ogden, Utah; three daughters, Susanne Leichty of Ogden, Mary Richmond of Shasta, Calif., and Nancy Jenson of Lexington, Ky.; one stepson, Jim Rice of Torrance, California; one stepdaughter, Marcla Wilson of British Columbia; one sister, Laura Little; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and special friend and companion Charlotte Vanderhoof.

Laura Miller Spokane

Memorial service for Laura C. Miller, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Miller, who was born in Portland, Conn., died last Saturday.

She had worked as the secretary to the purchasing agent at Harvard University. She moved to Spokane 47 years ago and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the St. Francis Guild at the cathedral and the Spokane Medical Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard C. Miller; two sons, Charles Miller of California and Edwin Miller of Puyallup, Wash.; one daughter, Emily Pearse Smith of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Marjorie Kelly of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Clarence Lystad Spokane

Memorial service for Clarence O. Lystad, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Lystad, who was born in Ryder, N.D., died Wednesday at home.

He graduated from college in Minot, N.D., with a degree in chemistry.

He taught seventh and eighth grades in Minot for five years and then became superintendent of schools there. He also taught naval cadets in Williamsburg, Va., during World War II and served as an officer on the USS Steel, a destroyer escort in the Pacific Ocean.

He came to Spokane from Richland in the late 1940s to work for Conley Chemical and later for Western Soap Co. He retired in 1975.

His first wife, Mary Lystad, died in 1956. He married Adline Steck in 1972.

He was a member of the Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his wife; one son, John Lystad of Spokane; one stepson, William Steck of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Nadine Page of Spokane; one brother, Robert Lystad of Worley, Idaho; and 12 grandchildren.

Monty Ralph Cusick, Wash.

Graveside service for Monty L. Ralph, 41, was held Friday.

Mr. Ralph died Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was receiving treatment for burns he suffered in an industrial accident in May at Ponderay Newsprint Co. in Usk, Wash.

He was born in Spokane.

He had served in the Army for eight years and had worked as a millwright at the newsprint company.

He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association.

Mr. Ralph is survived by his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Don Brashler of Chewelah, Wash.; and five brothers, Gary Ralph of Springdale, Wash., Bill Ralph of Deer Park, and David, Jerry and Kevin Ralph, all of Colville, Wash.
