Whalers Find Offense, Grab Win

From Wire Reports

NHL

Two goals by captain Brendan Shanahan and Nelson Emerson’s game-winner in the third period lifted the Hartford Whalers to a 5-4 decision over the host Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.

The Whalers, shut out in their last two games and with only three goals total during five consecutive losses, got some welcome offensive production from their big guns.

Shanahan scored his first two goals as a Whaler, Geoff Sanderson added just his second goal of the season and Andrei Nikolishin scored shorthanded.
