County To Refund Solid Waste Taxes

Nez Perce County has started to accept refund applications from city residents who paid improper taxes for six years beginning in 1988.

The tax was levied on them to pay for the county’s solid waste disposal program. But Lewiston, Peck, Lapwai and Culdesac have their own systems for which they assess a fee.

It is estimated about $220,000 was collected in the six years. The tax was levied on homes and other property; 16,000 parcels were affected.
