Steven Gammon Named Idaho Professor Of Year
Steven D. Gammon, chemistry professor at the University of Idaho, has been named Idaho Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Gammon is known for his ability to make science understandable and fun for students of every age.
He organized UI’s chemistry graduate students into a group that stages chemistry demonstrations at elementary and junior high schools. And, at Christmas time, the students perform the popular “Twelve Days of Chemistry” for the Moscow community.
“I must attribute a large part of my current interest in sciences to Dr. Gammon and his enthusiasm in making introductory chemistry walk and talk and breathe,” wrote Joseph Harrington in his letter recommending his professor for the prestigious award.
The major focus of Gammon’s research is the development and dissemination of computer-based materials designed to improve undergraduate chemistry instruction and to enhance preservice and in-service teacher education.
Gammon will receive a cash award and new computer equipment to help in his work.
