Police Without Leads In Theft Of Andrus’ Pickup

Associated Press

Police have no leads yet on the theft of former Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus’ pickup truck while he was visiting his father this week in his home town of Eugene, Ore.

“This is kind of one of those gone-in-the-night circumstances,” detective Dan Stroebel said.

Andrus has offered a $500 reward to anyone with information that leads to the recovery of the 1987 light blue Chevrolet Silverado with a camper shell.

“I was infuriated,” Idaho’s only four-term governor told The Register-Guard newspaper in Eugene.

The truck was stolen sometime between late Tuesday when he arrived at his father’s home and early Wednesday when he went out to retrieve a pair of boots. Andrus said he had “locked the truck up tight” Tuesday night after he unloaded his suitcase and briefcase.

“I’ve never experienced any theft of material goods or vehicles, and it was a shock for me to have it happen in the town where I grew up,” Andrus said. “Here I am, retired from politics and ready to do some hunting and some dirty, rotten, unfriendly types come along and steal my pride and joy.”

After reporting the truck theft to police, Andrus bought an airplane ticket and flew back to Boise.
