Chiefs Beat Portland 4-1; Coach Tossed
Jason Podollan’s breakaway goal in the second period broke a tie and sent Spokane to its fourth straight Western Hockey League road win, 4-1 over the Winter Hawks on Wednesday night.
Hugh Hamilton assisted on Podollan’s game-winner, which allowed the Chiefs (15-6) to conclude their road swing with a 4-2 record.
Portland (6-12-1) had jumped to a 1-0 lead at 17:31 of the first period when Richard Zednik scored his eighth goal in four games against the Chiefs this season, this one coming with a two-man advantage.
Chiefs coach Mike Babcock was ejected in the first period after derisively clapping a referee’s elbowing penalty called against Adam Magarrell. Babcock tossed two water bottles onto the ice as he left the bench.
