Here’s The Best Solution: She Can Interview Herself

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

It always happens - after somebody reaches a certain level of success in a certain field, they want to do something else. Or simply more.

Well, Kathie Lee Gifford - co-host of that incredibly huggy morning talk-show with Regis Philbin - is the latest to make noise over her wasted talent. In fact, she told talk-show host Charles Grodin, she thinks she can choose guests for her show better than 34-year-old producer Michael Gelman.

“I think I understand a little bit better the kind of guest (the audience) might want to see,” Gifford declares. “Most of our audience is women. Most of them are mothers, and they don’t live in an urban environment; they’re out in Middle America.”

As for Gelman, “After we burp him, we get him to book a guest,” Gifford said.

Loose talk

Madonna on sexual relations (on the television show “Extra”): “I’ve dated several men that were my equal. But I had to kill them all.”

And the survey says - he’s still insufferable

Richard Dawson turns 63 today.

And Mr. Cochran, if you’re hiring, his number is…

Christopher Darden, the O.J. Simpson co-prosecutor, holds no grudges. “I don’t think I can do anything but admire a man like (Johnnie) Cochran,” he told a group of Suffolk University law students in Boston on Thursday. “He’s a fine lawyer, he’s an educated man, a family man, a Christian man, so how could I not?”

And Cyndi Lauper said, ‘Girls just want to have fun’

According to the Economist, the No. 2 nonfiction best-seller in the United States is John Gray’s “Men Are From Mars; Women Are From Venus,” while the No. 1 best-seller in Germany is Ute Ehrhardt’s “Gute Madchen kommen in den Himmel, bose uberall hin” (which translates as “Good girls go to heaven; bad ones go everywhere”).

And it was only one of several unhealthy affairs for him

Anjelica Huston has matured, no small feat in Hollywood. Asked if she would ever resume her long-time relationship with Jack Nicholson, she said, “Frankly, at this point, no. I value myself too much to be involved with somebody like him anymore, though he’s a wonderful person who I will always love. It wasn’t that healthy a relationship for me.”

It’s because of the taxman, oh yeah, the ta-ax-man

George Harrison said in 1989 that “There won’t be a Beatles reunion as long as John Lennon is dead.” According to the New York Post, Harrison stands to make some $80 million from the reunion of his, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and tapes of the late Lennon in 1996 alone. Apparently, lonesome George needs an infusion of cash.

Kind of goes with the territory, don’t you think?

When asked about her reputation by talk-show host Lauren Hutton, “Inside Edition” anchor Deborah Norville said, “I’m really not an obnoxious person, but I work in TV. You know what it’s like.”
