Lockout continues

The union leaders for the NBA’s referees have refused to put the league’s latest contract offer to a vote.

“I am disappointed that the union has chosen to reject the proposal without having a vote of the membership,” NBA commissioner David Stern said.

“That decision, of course, is up to the union, but they have now left us with no choice other than to continue our season with new officials, who will begin working in three-man crews on Dec. 4.”

The NBA said its offer would have raised salaries to $85,000 this season for rookie refs and $261,000 for those at top scale. In the final year of the five-season offer, pay would range from $90,0000 to $328,000.

NBA notes

Seattle SuperSonics guard Nate McMillan is likely to make his season debut tonight against expansion Toronto. McMillan has been recovering since May from ankle surgery… . New York Knicks forward Charles Smith, who missed Sunday’s game with a strained groin muscle, is listed as day-to-day.
