Nextel Will Make Move To Seattle

Compiled From Wire Services

Nextel Communications Inc., a provider of wireless communications for teams of mobile workers, announced Monday it will relocate its corporate headquarters to the greater Seattle area.

“As a result of our recent merger activity, Nextel has corporate employees across the country, some of whom are performing the same functions,” said Nextel Chairman Morgan E. O’Brien. “It makes good business sense to bring together all headquarters functions in one location.”

Nextel recently completed mergers with OneComm Corp. and American Mobile Systems and expects to complete its previously announced merger with Dial Call later this year.

Nextel currently has headquarters in Rutherford, N.J., and Lafayette, Calif. OneComm operates headquarters in Denver, and Dial Call in Atlanta.

About 250 people will work at the new headquarters, which will be called the National Support Center.
