Gte Plans To Close Center In Moscow
GTE will shut down its Consumer Sales Support Center in Moscow permanently next Friday, ending the jobs of about 60 employees.
The company announced the plan to close the facility in January. Of the original 62 workers, only 13 are still working there, said Bob Wayt, spokesman for GTE.
Phone service in the Moscow/ Pullman area will not be affected, Wayt said. The center provided support services for customer service operations in Everett, Wash. Some of those support services are now handled from St. Petersburg, Fla., he said.
GTE continues to employ about 90 people in the Moscow/Pullman area. Several services such as customer operations and marketing remain in the area for GTE customers.
The company offered seminars and training sessions to help the displaced workers, Wayt said.
