Idaho Searched For Utah Bombing Suspect
Police detectives from this Salt Lake County suburb were in Idaho this week tracking down a former Murray, Idaho, man facing explosives charges in Utah.
Police also want to question Douglas L. Birkinbine, 33, about a bombing that destroyed a Sandy house Aug. 17, leaving a man dead.
Birkinbine, an Idaho native and former Murray resident, was charged Thursday in 3rd Circuit Court with possession of an explosive device found in a suitcase outside another Sandy home five days later.
“Officially, at this point, he’s not a suspect in the murder,” Sandy Police Chief Sam Dawson said of Birkinbine.
The blast injured a woman and rescue crews pulled the body of 21-year-old Californian Phillip Boykin from the blast. It was later determined Boykin sustained gunshot wounds before the blast.
Dawson declined to say where in Idaho the two detectives are looking for Birkinbine.
