Jail Time For Your Best Of Friends March Of Dimes Holds ‘Jail And Bail’ Fund-Raiser At North Town
You might have to bail out some friends this week. Over the next three days, a few chosen “culprits” will be thrown into the slammer. No one will read them their rights. No trial. No jury. No escape. The cell is locked until bail is raised.
Fortunately, the “bail” takes the form of pledged contributions, the “jail” term is only an hour and the “criminal” is a good-natured individual who believes in the charitable work of the March of Dimes and supports its annual “Jail and Bail” fund-raiser.
Tuesday through Thursday, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation will be at NorthTown Mall with prisoners in mock jail cells. The goal is to raise $39,000 for programs which develop written, audio and video materials to educate teens and adults on pregnancy-related issues.
Jailed volunteer are each given an hour to phone relatives and friends to secure pledged contributions before they are released. The March of Dimes welcomes passerbys to stop at “Jail and Bail” and make a pledge between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
Two more “Jail and Bail” fundraisers will be Oct. 17-18 at Washington State University in Pullman and Oct. 24-26 at the University City Mall in Spokane.
For these, there is still time to arrange an arrest by calling (509) 328-1920. Civic leaders, prominent citizens, your neighbor next-door, your spouse. As an “informant” however, you must be willing to pledge a minimum contribution of $50. A small price to pay to catch a glimpse of your criminal behind bars sporting a cellular telephone. But watch out, you may be the first person he calls.
