Nhl Puts Clamp On Yashin
Ottawa star center Alexei Yashin, who refuses to play for the Senators in a contract dispute, played a second straight game for Moscow’s Red Army club and the National Hockey League wants it to be his last.
The league faxed a letter to the International Ice Hockey Federation, asking that it stop Yashin from playing for the Red Army.
“We asked the IIHF to get the Russian federation to have Yashin stop playing,” said NHL vice president Arthur Pincus. “We expect them to get it done.”
Because he is under contract to Ottawa, Yashin is ineligible to play with Red Army. Those conditions are outlined in an NHL-IIHF contract that governs transfer of players to and from North America and Europe.
