Police Officer Challenging Hammond

A DARE officer is challenging Mayor Jim Hammond, an elementary school principal, in the upcoming city elections, while four residents vie for two council positions.

Kootenai County sheriff’s Deputy Don Kline has filed for candidacy in the mayoral race.

As a DARE officer, Kline is assigned to the schools to teach children how to avoid substance abuse. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

Charles “Bob” Kupfer had shown an interest in running for mayor, but had not turned in his application by Tuesday’s deadline.

In the council races, incumbent Scott Grant is running for one of the two at-large seats against Clay Larkin, Joe Bodman and Robert Hunt.

Bodman also is a sheriff’s deputy.

Larkin and Hunt are retirees.
