The Buffalo Sabres placed veteran left wing Scott Pearson on waivers and will assign him to their AHL affiliate if he is not claimed by another team.

Kenny Thomas, a New Mexico freshman projected as a starting forward on the basketball team, has been ruled ineligible because a class he took as a ninth-grader failed to meet NCAA standards.

Thomas’ athletic scholarship has been taken away pending the outcome of UNM’s appeal to the NCAA.
