What’s An Environmenalist?

Would you want to be called an environmentalist? What do you think is the best definition, and the worst definition of environmentalist?

That is one set of questions participants in the Ice Cream Conferences were asked to address.

Generally, the “best” definitions talked about stewardship, and the “worst” about extremism. Here are two responses that spelled those views out in detail:

“We felt the best definition of an environmentalist was one who embraced the concept of stewardship over the resources of this planet, taking from it what we need in a way ensures that those resources will continue to be available for future generations and ensuring that the beauty of the land will remain.” (from the conference hosted by Bernie and Judy Armstrong in northwest Spokane)

“The worst definition of an environmentalist is a selfish, closedminded, left-wing, vegetarian, dolphin-kissing, tree-spiking, jobrobbing, non-bathing, tree-hugging, self-motivated extremist.” (from the conference hosted by Christopher Vahon in southeast Spokane)
